When a new 20-storey cylindrical Art’Otel was being built in the Shoreditch Conservation Area it required the retention of two large Banksy artworks painted onto a rendered external wall. Simpson TWS developed and designed the demolition methodology that allowed for the fragile artworks to be removed and relocated prior to the building’s demolition. Fabricated steel stillages clamped the panels to allow them to be lifted safely. In October 2019 the two artworks, one weighing 6t and the other 35t, were successfully freed from the building structure and transported by crane into their new locations.
