Structural Engineer

We are recruiting a Structural Engineer for our Henley office.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious structural engineer to play a significant role in the continuing development of our dynamic company.

You will have:

  • 3-5 years' experience 

  • A BEng or MEng Civil / Structural Engineering or Engineering Design and be a member of the relevant body such as the IStructE. 

  • Working towards chartership or the ambition to do so.

  • Experience of building structures and a knowledge of steel, concrete, timber and load bearing masonry structures

  • The ability to design to British Standards or Eurocodes. 

  • Experience with computer software is desirable – notably TEKLA Structural Designer, Robot and TEDDS.

  • Experience across a variety of sectors such as commercial, educational and residential. 

  • Excellent communication skills with a positive working attitude.

  • We are particularly interested in candidates located within a reasonable commute of our Henley office.

Str Engineer - Glos

Civil Engineers
London, Gloucester and Henley on Thames

We are recruiting experienced Civil Engineers at a variety of levels to build our teams in our London, Gloucester and Henley on Thames offices. We offer excellent career prospects, the opportunity to be part of a lively team offering a breadth of experience in a dynamic business.

Responsibilities:

  • Design of drainage, service, road infrastructure and earthworks on a broad range of projects that include industrial, commercial, residential, retail, health and leisure developments.

  • Preparation of associated drawings from concept stage through to construction.

  • Preparation of Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Statements and Service Strategy Reports as well as design of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems from concept stage through to implementation.

  • Design and detailing of works associated with highway (s.278, s.38, etc.) and drainage agreements (s.104, s.185, etc) as well as other relevant consents / permits and negotiation of technical approvals.

  • Site audits and feasibility assessments.

  • Growing civil engineering expertise as well as maintaining and developing Client relationships.

  • Management, leadership, support and coaching of other team members in undertaking technical work and report writing.

 

Key Skills & Experience

  • Relevant degree plus 1+ years’ experience in a civil engineering role. 

  • Experience writing reports such as Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Statements, etc.

  • Experience preparing drawings using AutoCAD.

  • Experience carrying out design of foul and surface water drainage systems using MicroDrainage.

  • Experience carrying out vehicle swept path assessments using AutoTrack.

  • Experience using ground modelling software for the design of horizontal / vertical alignment, earthworks, etc.

  • Experience of negotiations with highway authorities, drainage authorities and Environment Agency.

  • Knowledge of national guidance such as Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions, Manual for Streets, Sewers for Adoption, Building Regulations, etc.

 

The successful candidate will have effective project and client management skills together with a high standard of written and oral communication. We are looking for a team worker with a positive approach who enjoys generating and applying creative solutions to project challenges. Sound commercial awareness is vital.

Civil Engineers

Revit Technician
Gloucester

An excellent opportunity to join the growing team of technical experts  in our Gloucester office.

What are we looking for?

Our Revit design team is looking for a Revit Technician to join our office in Gloucester. You’ll be working alongside experienced CAD/REVIT technicians who have years of knowledge and experience within Simpson TWS to offer guidance and support, as well as the opportunity to work on technically complex and challenging projects within the building industry.

Some of your key duties include:

  • Work with Simpson TWS design teams and project delivery teams to produce Revit models and technical drawings at various project stages

  • Independently work and manage timescales against project programmes

  • Checking the quality of information provided by third parties, and the successful transition to deliverables within a collaborative environment

  • Support other team members to produce project and details standards 

What do you need?

  • Qualified to HNC level advantageous

  • 2+ years’ relevant experience is ideal 

  • Good knowledge in the use of AutoCAD & Revit

  • Keen focus on quality whilst also be able to work at pace within a multi-disciplinary team

  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time

  • Working knowledge of BIM although not essential as training will be provided

  • Experience of building structures and a knowledge of steel, concrete, timber and load bearing masonry structures

  • Excellent communication skills with a positive working attitude

The Role

You will work on all aspects of projects, from conceptual scheme design through to construction on site, as well as managing relationships with clients, contractors and design teams. Day to day, you will be modelling, designing using cutting edge software, report writing and liaising with contractors and clients. You will be supported with on-the-job training and mentoring from our team of industry-leading professionals, who will aid you in your professional development and working towards ICE / IStructE qualifications. We have opportunities in both our structural and civils/infrastructure/drainage teams.

What you’ll need

  • You will be a recent graduate or graduating this summer with a minimum of 2:1 BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering or similar

Why a civil engineering degree apprenticeship?

You can earn while you learn! You will  start your degree in September 2023. Through this Level 6 degree apprenticeship you will gain a BEng in Civil Engineering from University of West London. 

So you will gain this degree with  no student finance while also earning a salary.

What will you be doing? 

You will begin by learning CAD skills which are the basis of all the construction designs we do. You will work alongside experienced technicians and engineers to develop your knowledge of building engineering. You will translate civil engineers’ and architects’ designs into technical drawings, taking into account elements such as environmental features and utilities, making decisions and recommendations as to how these are dealt with. You will communicate with clients, suppliers and colleagues as part of this process.  As your skills develop, you will then start to be involved in  engineering design, working towards designing independently. You will be supported all along with on-the-job training and mentoring from our team of experienced, industry-leading professionals.

We are a well-established structural and civil engineering consultancy operating from offices in London, Gloucester and Henley on Thames. Our continued development means we have an opportunity for a CAD Technician in our Gloucester team.

We have a broad client base including valuable private clients and long-standing relationships with major national clients such as Whitbread plc, Taylor Wimpey, Barratt , Marston’s Inns and Taverns, Costa Coffee, Redrow, Galliard and Cala and many more. 

You will be working on a variety of projects with a focus on housing. 

You will have experience in the preparation of structural drawings and BIM Models with a sound understanding of engineering principles.  A good all-round knowledge of AutoCAD is essential.
