West Cross, Brentford

We have provided structural and civil engineering services for the redevelopment of West Cross House and 1-6 Windsor Close in Brentford for Legal and General Investment Management Ltd. The scheme design has been heritage-led, focusing on replicating the scale and prominence of the demolished Firestone building, with its architecture referencing the historic art deco building and preserving the Grade II listed pedestrian site. It will deliver extensive commercial warehousing to this site on the edge of London. High sustainability standards are a key goal of the project with a strong focus on Net Zero Carbon, Wellbeing, BREEAM, Social Value, Sustainable Procurement and Climate Risk Resilience. Some of the measures include:
  • Reuse or recycling of materials from the existing site.

  • Sustainable materials used in the new build including the specification of low carbon concrete.

  • An alternative scheme for the RC slabs which we developed significantly reducing the volume of concrete and the complexity of the construction. The embodied carbon was reduced by 7,000 tonnes.

  • Flexibility in the design of the building to appeal to a range of end users and for future adaptability.

  • A sustainable drainage strategy that uses a variety of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) to reduce flood risk by minimising the rate of discharge, volume, and environmental impact of runoff.

The project team includes Legal & General Investment Management, Gardiner & Theobald LLP, Chetwoods Architects, Henry Riley LLP, Engineering Services Partnership Limited, Layer.Studio and Hoare Lea
