Queen’s Temple, Stowe Gardens

We gave structural engineering advice for the programme of repair and refurbishment work by the National Trust.

The Queen’s Temple was originally constructed in 1748 as Lady’s Temple for Lady Cobham but was substantially reworked in the 1770’s adding a new façade, front stairs, portico and bay window. At this time the temple was renamed Queen’s Temple in honour of Queen Charlotte.

The Grade 1 listed gardens and parkland at Stowe were created in the 18th century by Charles Bridgeman, William Kent and Capability Brown and are considered one of the most significant examples of English landscape gardens. The gardens including around 35 surviving monuments were given to the Trust by Stowe School in 1990.
